Description

The medieval bridge of Hita is a small historic bridge over a local riverbed, integrated into the rural landscape of the hillside and linked to the medieval quarter of this town in the province of Alcarria. The tourist card of The Most Beautiful Villages of Spain presents it as a historic medieval structure over the river and as an access point to a panoramic path of the municipality, which indicates its value as an element of connection between built heritage and natural environment. Due to its typology, it is a bridge of medieval origin, although the sources consulted do not show its exact dimensions or a more precise dating. Its interest lies not only in the masonry, but also in the route it articulates: from it you can access an itinerary that allows you to contemplate the relief of Hita and its transition between the historic village and the open landscape of the Alcarria. The visit is of particular interest to those who are looking for a joint reading of nature and heritage: the bridge functions as a discreet landmark within a town with a medieval layout, declared a Historic Site, and fits into the image of Hita as an enclave closely linked to its topography, its walls and its defensive past. Its relevance is mainly scenic and cultural, as it is part of the resources of a municipality very identified with heritage tourism and short trails. In addition, it appears in informative reference guides about Hita, which confirms its role as a local resource to visit, although the available sources do not provide a specific figure of protection for the bridge itself.
