El Pozo de los Alisos, officially known as La Aliseda Recreational Area, is a natural site of great scenic value located in the municipality of Santa Elena, in the province of Jaén, Andalusia. It is situated in a valley in the southern foothills of the Sierra Morena, near the Despeñaperros Natural Park, five kilometers from the town of Santa Elena. The site is notable for its abundance of alder trees—the species that gives the area its name—along with pines, holm oaks, cork oaks, chestnut trees, and willows, all set in an environment rich in aromatic plants. From the visitor point, you can see a small river with crystal-clear waters called “La Campana,” which flows over a rocky bed. The geological environment contains iron pyrite, which causes the waters of some springs to be ferruginous. This area was historically an important mining center with galena and silver veins, which adds historical significance to the natural landscape. Pozo de los Alisos is a managed recreational area that offers a place to relax in a protected natural setting. Although it does not have a specific protected status as a natural park, its location near Despeñaperros and its ecological value make it an interesting destination for visitors seeking tranquility and nature. The best time to visit is during spring or fall, when temperatures are more pleasant and the vegetation is at its most vibrant.
