Description

La Poza de Santa Lucía is a small rural water resource associated with the area of Santa Lucía, in Vejer de la Frontera (Cádiz), on the slope of La Muela. In this area the water of the spring of La Muela and the old hydraulic system linked to the stream and the mills has configured a traditional landscape of great interest, where the natural environment and the human use of water are explained together. The local and tourist reference identifies it as a natural pool linked to this environment of meadows, orchards and riparian vegetation. The most interesting thing for the visitor is its integration in a landscape of countryside and hillsides, with vegetation typical of a humid Mediterranean environment and with the nearby presence of heritage elements such as the aqueduct and the mills of Santa Lucía. This set allows us to understand how the slopes and flows were used to move mills and supply agricultural and domestic uses in the old vega vejeriega. Its relevance lies not only in its scenic value, but also in its role as a testimony to the culture of water in Vejer. The local administration presents Santa Lucía as an outstanding natural area of the municipality, and different tourist sources describe it as a place of ecological and rural interest. The pool is part of this unique landscape, where the hydraulic memory and the biological environment are still the main attraction.
