Description

La Posada del Cordón is a museum or interpretation center dedicated to the traditional culture of the province of Guadalajara, located in Atienza, next to the access from the Plaza de España and on Héctor Vázquez Street, according to the provincial tourist information sheets. The resource is identified as the Interpretation Center of Traditional Culture and exhibits a large ethnographic collection of more than 600 pieces, with an exhibition area of about 400 m². It is linked to the Diputación de Guadalajara and also functions as a tourist information point and a space for educational activities. The building occupies an old mansion from the 15th century, of which the Gothic façade is preserved; the rest of the construction is new, according to the sources consulted. Therefore, the building combines a late medieval origin with a contemporary museum-oriented intervention. This heritage reuse allows to present the history, customs and traditions of the province in a historical architectural framework closely associated with the medieval town of Atienza. Its contents include collections on identity, traditional architecture, festive annual cycle, beliefs, daily life, popular arts and crafts, supported by panels, videos, images and interactive screens. The permanent exhibition is conceived as an informative reading of the traditional cultural heritage of Guadalajara, with pieces from the Alonso-Calleja family, the School of Folklore and other private donations. In the context of Atienza, a medieval town of great historical relevance, the Posada del Cordón expands the local heritage offer and is integrated into the set of cultural visits of the municipality. Its main value lies in the combination of preserved historic architecture, museum function and specialized ethnographic content.
