The Poljé de la Nava is a large flat-bottomed karst depression, located in the Sierra de Cabra and within the natural park of the Sierras Subbéticas. It is a plain of geological origin, formed by the dissolution of limestone, with closed relief, steep slopes and a clayey bottom that favors temporary waterlogging. Its extension is about 4 km² and it is located at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. From the viewpoint and the surrounding observation points, there is a wide view of the enclosed valley, with the contrast between the interior plain and the limestone walls that surround it. In the wet season, the poljé can behave as a seasonal wetland, with the Bailón river collecting and draining the waters into a natural sinkhole or ponor, one of the most characteristic features of the karst landscape of the Subbética. Its interest is not only geomorphological: it is part of one of the most representative landscapes of the province of Cordoba and is mentioned in routes and informative materials of the natural park and Andalusian Tourism. On clear days, the high sector of the environment is also associated with wide panoramic views over the countryside and other Andalusian mountains. The best time to visit is spring, when the environment is greener, or winter after rainfall, if you want to see the poljé with water and more humid character. In summer the landscape is drier and more open, although the geological reading is still very clear.
