Description

The fluvial beach of Tapia is a recreational area next to the Tambre river, in the surroundings of Tapia, in the municipality of Ames. It is a bathing area of inland waters with a wooded margin, meadows and spaces of stay, associated with a fluvial section of transition between rural and periurban environment, very frequented in summer. In the local and tourist bibliography it also appears as a recreational area of Tapia. From the point of visit, one can see the Tambre riverbed, small backwaters and a waterfall or water step next to the bathing area, as well as a mill in the vicinity mentioned by recent visitors. The whole is interesting for the combination of river landscape, natural shade and recreational use, with easy access and services that make it one of the most complete areas of the surroundings of Santiago. There is no specific protection figure for the site, but it is a constant presence in local guides and tourist websites of Santiago and Ames. It is a place widely used for bathing, walking and daytime stay, especially in the warmer months, when the flow and temperature of the water make the visit more pleasant. The best time is usually in the morning or late afternoon, when there is less traffic and the light is softer on the river.

How to get there

By car: from Santiago or Bertamiráns, take the C-543 towards Noia; at Villestro, turn off towards Negreira and, after passing Ventosa and Aguapesada, follow the detour signposted to Playa Fluvial de Tapia. Parking: there is a parking area next to the recreational area; in high season it can easily fill up. Trail: short access from the parking area to the bathing area; there is no relevant hiking itinerary. Footwear: Comfortable shoes for wet terrain and non-skid soles. Best season: May to September. Warnings: In summer it is very crowded; the water is usually cold; extreme caution should be taken to avoid slipping in the wet areas and to respect the recreational area regulations.
