Sakoneta Beach is a small cove of pebbles and rock, open in the tidal rasa between the cliffs of the coast of Deba, in the Geopark of the Basque Coast. Its interest is not in the comfortable bathing, but in the coastal landscape: flysch strata, abrasion platforms and coastal walls that clearly show the geological history of the coast of Gipuzkoa. The beach is mentioned with approximate lengths of 450 to 500 meters, although its width varies greatly with the tide. From the point of visit you can see a very cut out stretch of coastline, with the tidal flat extended at the foot of the cliff and a sequence of rocky layers of great didactic value. At low tide, the relief is better understood and the forms eroded by the waves can be appreciated more clearly. It is a well-known place among hikers and geology enthusiasts because of its relationship with the Flysch Route and because it is part of the Deba-Zumaia sector of the Geopark. The documentation consulted places it in the municipality of Deba, in the neighborhood of Itxaspe/Itziar, within a protected natural area and very frequented by visitors looking for coastal scenery rather than a conventional beach. Some guides describe it as a wild sandy area, without services and with access on foot. It is advisable to visit it at low tide, in days of calm sea and good visibility, because the set of cliffs and rocks gain much reading and visual safety.
