Los Escullos Beach, also known as Playa del Arco or Playa del Esparto, is an open cove of fine golden sand located in the surroundings of Los Escullos, within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. The enclave rests on reliefs of volcanic origin and on a strip of fossil dunes and sandstones shaped by the wind and waves, resulting in a very recognizable coastal landscape of the eastern strip of Almería. From the shore you can observe a beach of virgin aspect, with rocky bottom in part of its sea front and a dry and luminous environment, dominated by volcanic hills and small escarpments. It is a place appreciated by those looking for quiet bathing, observation of the landscape and snorkeling in rocky bottoms and seagrass meadows, although it does not have a conventional beach development. Its main interest is geological and scenic: it is part of a very representative sector of Cabo de Gata, protected for its natural value and the combination of coast, volcanism and ancient marine sediments. The best time to visit it is usually in the morning or at sunset, when the light enhances the ochre tones of the sandstone and the relief of the environment. On calm sea days it offers a very clean and open image; with an easterly wind or swell, bathing may be less comfortable. It is advisable to take into account that it is an exposed spot, with very limited or non-existent services depending on the season.
