La Griega Beach is a wide sandy beach of golden sand, located at the mouth of the Libardon River and in a coastal environment of transition between beach, estuary and small rocky outcrops. Its best known feature are the dinosaur footprints visible in the eastern sector, associated with large sauropods and considered among the largest discovered in the world. The enclave is part of the Protected Landscape of the Sierra del Sueve and is linked to the paleontological dissemination of the Asturian Jurassic. From the beach an open landscape is appreciated and very characteristic of the coast of Colunga: the riverbed, the sheet of sand, the strip of rocks and, on clear days, the coastline towards Lastres. The visit combines bathing, walking and observation of the site, with a marked path that leads to the ichnites and that can be walked even at high tide along the inner path. It is a place often mentioned in guides and tourist resources of Asturias for its geological and family interest, in addition to having beach services. The best time to enjoy it is from late spring to early autumn, and especially at low tide if you want to see the rocky platform better and get closer to the footprints. It should be distinguished from other beaches of the same name: here the main interest is not only bathing, but the combination of coastal landscape and paleontological heritage.
