Description
La Concha de Artedo Beach is a coastal spot in the council of Cudillero, in Asturias, located on the western Cantabrian coast, next to Lamuño and San Martín de Luiña, around the coordinates 43.56762, -6.19198. It is a shell-shaped beach, with a length quoted in municipal and informative sources of between 680 and 760 meters, and an average width of approximately 55 meters. Its most visible feature is the alternation of boulders in the upper part and golden sand at low tide, with moderate waves and a natural shelter provided by the surrounding headlands and cliffs. The Uncín river also flows into it, coming from the brañas vaqueiras, which adds scenic interest and a small estuarine component to the whole. The beach is interesting for its width, for the contrast between high and low tide, and for being one of the most recognizable beaches in the council, with road access and seasonal services. The sources consulted place it within the Protected Landscape of the Western Coast and also link it with protection figures such as ZEPA and LIC, which reinforces its environmental relevance. The municipal information includes parking, signposted accesses and summer lifeguards, as well as intensive use in summer. Overall, it is a coastal space of natural and recreational value, useful both for bathing and for the observation of the Asturian coastal landscape.
How to get there
By car: from the N-632, take the junction signposted to La Concha de Artedo and follow the signs to the beach; there is also access from Lamuño, with very limited parking for large vehicles. Parking: next to the beach, with capacity for approximately 30 vehicles. Path: not necessary; access is direct to the sand. Footwear: comfortable shoes are recommended for walking on pebbles on the upper part of the beach. Best time: spring, summer and, if looking for more sand surface, low tide in any season. Warnings: in summer it can be quite crowded; at high tide the beach loses a lot of usable area and in summer season there may be restrictions for animals.
