Description
Comillas Beach is an urban beach on the coast of Comillas, on the west coast of Cantabria, with golden sand and a sandy front of about 900 meters long and about 40 meters wide. It is located in an environment open to the Cantabrian Sea, with moderate waves and a coastal landscape closely linked to the town and its promenade. The resource is of interest for being the main beach of the urban area and for combining bathing, strolling and views of the Cantabrian coast. Its location, in a small and coastal municipality, makes it a very accessible space of intense summer use, with beach services and regular presence of the public. From the landscape point of view, it is part of the coastal strip of Comillas, a municipality that opens to the sea between smooth reliefs and the area of the Cantabrian Marina. The Coastal Demarcation itself has processed protection actions in this section, which confirms its condition as a space exposed to the coastal dynamics and to the needs of conservation and management of the maritime-terrestrial public domain.
How to get there
By car: access Comillas by the CA-135 or CA-131 depending on where you are coming from, and continue towards the town center and the port/beach area. Parking: there are parking areas around the beach and the port; in high season it may be paid or with high occupancy. Trail: direct access from the town center; minimal pedestrian route, no trail per se. Footwear: comfortable walking shoes and, if you are going to walk along the shore, sandals or shoes that are not afraid of sand. Best season: spring and early autumn; also weekdays in summer. Warnings: beach exposed to tides and with high influx in summer; it is advisable to check the state of the sea and the enabled areas before bathing.
