Barrika Beach is a sandy area open to the Cantabrian Sea, about 600 meters long, with a mixture of sand and stone and framed by steep cliffs. Access to the shore is by stairs and the environment changes a lot with the tide, because part of the beach can be covered or isolated depending on the state of the sea. Its coastal landscape is one of the most recognizable of the coast of Bizkaia by the combination of rock, green slopes and geological strata visible in the cliffs. From the point of visit you can see a wild beach, exposed to the waves, with a very little protected coastline and a wide view of the open sea. It is a particularly interesting place to observe the Cantabrian coast at low tide, when the relief forms and rocky areas are more exposed. It is also an enclave frequented by surfers and people looking for a quiet coastal walk in a natural environment with a strong personality. The City Council of Barrika includes it within its coastal area and beaches, and Turismo Euskadi describes it as an open beach with difficult access due to the height of the cliff in that sector. The area is known in the tourist literature for its cliffs and the unique landscape of the municipality, closely linked to the coastal geology. The best time to visit is usually at low tide, and photography usually favors the visit in the early hours of the day or in the afternoon, when the light best highlights the folds of the cliffs and the contrast between rock, sand and sea.
