Description
The Pinsapar de Grazalema is a natural forest of Spanish fir, the relict fir of the Mediterranean flora, located in the Sierra de Grazalema, in the municipality of Grazalema (Cadiz), within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and its Biosphere Reserve. In this sector of the park, the main mass exceeds 400 hectares and occupies the Sierra del Pinar, in a very abrupt limestone relief where the Atlantic humidity and the orographic effect favor this unique ecosystem. What makes this resource special is the rarity of the Spanish fir and the mountain landscape that accompanies it: rocky slopes, dense forests, clearings with wide views and a high mountain vegetation unusual in Andalusia. On the Pinsapar route you can also observe birds of prey and the contrast between the cool and humid interior of the forest and the crests and viewpoints of the mountains, a set highly valued by hikers and lovers of botany. Its relevance is remarkable because it is one of the most emblematic enclaves of plant conservation in Spain. The protection of the area was reinforced with the declaration of the natural park and the Biosphere Reserve, precisely because of the uniqueness of this forest and for hosting one of the largest concentrations of Spanish firs in the world in this mountain range. The visit is made by a marked trail linking Grazalema and Benamahoma, with regulated access. It is one of the most recognizable landscapes of the municipality and a common reference in nature guides for the scientific, forest and landscape value of the pinsapar.
