Description

The Pinsapar de Genalguacil is a forest of Spanish firs, the Andalusian fir, located in the Sierra Bermeja, within the municipality of Genalguacil, in Malaga. It is part of the mountain landscape of the Genal Valley, a territory of steep slopes, riparian vegetation and strong contrast between peaks, ravines and well-preserved forest patches. In the sources consulted it is described as one of the most remarkable pinsapares of the Serranía de Ronda and a natural resource linked to the environment of Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja. The most interesting part of the visit is the forest itself, with trails between pinsapos and mid-mountain vegetation, in addition to the wide panoramic views over Sierra Bermeja and the valley. The route is associated with itineraries of low-medium difficulty and a route of about 4.5 km in the informative proposal of Andalucía Turismo, although other descriptions speak of variable sections depending on the access point and the chosen route. Its environmental relevance is high because the Spanish fir is a unique botanical relic of the southern peninsular and this enclave is integrated into a protected territory for its ecological and landscape value, linked to the Genal Valley and the Intercontinental Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean. The geological uniqueness of Sierra Bermeja, formed by peridotites, reinforces the interest of the whole and explains the presence of a landscape very different from other mountain ranges in Malaga.
