Description

The Pino del Escobón is a singular and monumental tree in Linares de Mora, in the province of Teruel, located next to the Linares River, in an environment of mountain pine forest and riparian forest of the Sierra de Gúdar. It is a specimen of laricio pine (Pinus nigra subsp. salzmannii), cited by local and tourist sources as one of the most outstanding in Aragon for its size and longevity. The references consulted describe it as being more than 400 years old and around 28-29 meters high, with a very thick trunk and a base protected by a circular wall. Its natural interest lies in the combination of size, age and good crown shape, rare features in a mountain tree of this type. What you see when you visit it is not only the tree, but also the surrounding landscape: a fresh and wooded corner, next to a riverbed, with a recreational area and views of the mountain pine forest. In autumn the environment acquires special scenic value, according to local descriptions, and access is easy from the road between Linares de Mora and Valdelinares. Its importance lies in the fact that it is included in the Catalogue of Singular Trees of Aragon and is part of an area linked to the Natura 2000 Network, which reinforces its conservation interest. It is also one of the best known trees in Linares de Mora and is mentioned in local and regional tourist information as a natural emblem of the municipality.
