The Peñón de Ifach is a large limestone promontory connected to the land by a narrow isthmus, with a height of about 332 m and a length of about one kilometer. It is part of the Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park, one of the most unique and smallest protected areas of the Valencian Community, declared in 1987 for its scenic, ecological and geological value. Its silhouette dominates the bay of Calp and acts as a visual landmark of the Costa Blanca. From the route of the visit you can see the open sea, the coast of Calp, the salt flats and, on clear days, wide panoramic views of the coastline of the Marina Alta. The climb allows you to recognize the transition between coastal vegetation, bare rock and cliffs inhabited by seabirds, with a landscape very exposed to the breeze and erosion. The best known image is that of the isthmus and the rocky wall rising directly above the water. Its interest is not only scenic: it is a common reference in hiking and nature guides of the province and a very representative enclave of the Valencian coast. The official route is regulated, with access conditioned by the capacity of the space and, in high stretches, by the state of the path. The best time to visit is usually at dawn or late afternoon, when the light highlights the limestone relief and the heat is less. In spring and autumn conditions are usually more comfortable for walking.
