Description
The Parrizal de Beceite is a natural mountain and river spot associated with the upper course of the Matarraña, in the surroundings of the Puertos de Beceite, within the municipality of La Fresneda, in Teruel. It is an area of great scenic interest, with a narrow canyon carved between rock walls and a well-known hiking route in the region. The tourist reference of Aragón mentions it as an excursion close to the town center and suitable for all ages. The most characteristic thing that can be seen in the visit is the encasing of the river, the wooden walkways and the narrows of the final stretch, where the valley closes between vertical walls. The path follows the water in a Mediterranean riverside environment, with pine, olive and almond trees in the surrounding landscape, and offers a clear reading of the relationship between relief, water and vegetation in the Matarraña. Its interest is not only scenic: the area is part of a protected area of community and ornithological value, and the itinerary is regulated by the region, with controlled access and limitations such as the prohibition of dogs and bathing along the route. In addition, the route includes heritage elements such as cave paintings and old facilities linked to coal transport, which adds a historical and cultural dimension.
