Paleochristian Necropolis of Deth Taro

42.70022, 0.84667

Description

The Paleochristian Necropolis of Deth Taro is an archaeological heritage resource located in Garòs, in the municipality of Naut Aran, province of Lleida, in the Val d'Aran. It is located at the end of the town center, in the immediate vicinity of the Calvary road, from the church of Sant Julià, at the indicated coordinate of 42.70022, 0.84667. It is a funerary complex from the early Christian period, linked to the first moments of Christianity in the valley. Local tourist sources indicate that at this point are preserved remains of an ancient necropolis, now integrated into the heritage landscape of Garòs and associated with the historical itinerary of the village. Due to its archaeological nature, the value of the site lies in the material documentation of early burial practices and their relationship with the historical occupation of the enclave. There is no precise chronology of construction in the sources consulted; therefore, it should be described only as a paleochristian necropolis, without attributing a specific century if a specialized reference is not provided. The resource is understood within the historical heritage of Garòs, where the parish church of Sant Julià, of medieval origin and with later reforms, also stands out. The necropolis complements this ensemble and helps to explain the continuity of human and religious occupation in this sector of the Aran Valley.
