Description
The Museu de la Mar de Peñíscola is a municipal museum of maritime character located in the old town of Peñíscola, in the province of Castellón, next to C/ Príncipe s/n and on the Baluarte del Príncipe, in the historic building of Les Costures. Its location links it directly with the walled front and with the seafaring tradition of the city. The museum focuses on Peñíscola's historical relationship with the Mediterranean and brings together archaeological pieces found on land and at sea, as well as materials on fishing, sea trades, boats and marine fauna. The regional tourism website highlights that the tour allows visitors to learn about centuries of seafaring tradition and the importance of Mediterranean trade in antiquity. As a heritage resource, its interest lies not only in the collections, but also in the space it occupies: the Baluarte del Príncipe, configured in the eighteenth century as artillery barracks, according to Turismo de Castellón. This enclave reinforces the historical value of the museum within the defensive and urban system of the walled enclosure of Peñíscola. The sources consulted agree that it is a municipally owned or managed museum, accessible to the public, and specialized in disseminating the local maritime memory.
