Description
The Municipal Museum of Vejer, identified in the official documentation as Museum Collection of History and Archaeology of Vejer de la Frontera, is a local museum dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of historical and archaeological heritage of the municipality. It is located in Vejer de la Frontera, Cádiz, at 10 Marqués de Tamarón Street, in the historic center of the town. Its headquarters occupy a historic building of the eighteenth century, former residence of the Marquis of Tamarón, which adds heritage value to the museum itself. The municipal regulations state that the building is municipal property and was adapted to the museum's museographic and museological needs. The institution is conceived as a permanent space open to the public to explain local history and preserve materials linked to the historical evolution of Vejer and its surroundings. By its nature, it fits into the typology of archaeological and historical museum of municipal scope, complemented with content on the social and cultural memory of the town. Vejer de la Frontera has a remarkable historical-artistic ensemble, declared in 1976, and the museum is integrated into this heritage context as a cultural facility of reference to interpret the historical identity of the municipality.
