Description

The Pollentia Monographic Museum is an archaeological museum in Alcúdia, on the island of Mallorca, dedicated to the findings from the Roman city of Pollentia and the excavations carried out in its surroundings. Its function is to contextualize the ancient Roman city and show materials that help to understand the daily, public and funerary life of that historical settlement. According to the Alcúdia Town Hall, the museum is located in the historic center, in a building in the old town, and presents a collection organized in several thematic areas. The Ministry of Culture indicates that it was created in 1983 as a subsidiary section of the Museu de Mallorca, with the aim of relating the archaeological pieces recovered with their original context. Municipal sources indicate that the museum occupies a 14th century building, remodeled in 2006. The exhibition brings together diverse archaeological pieces, with special attention to sculptures, inscriptions, architectural elements, objects of daily use, jewelry and materials related to the Roman funerary world.
