Description
The Ethnographic Museum of Valverde de los Arroyos is an ethnographic museum located in Valverde de los Arroyos, in the province of Guadalajara, in the Sierra Norte of Castilla-La Mancha. It is located at Calle Medio, 15, and is managed by the City Council of Valverde de los Arroyos; access is free and is presented as a space dedicated to preserving and displaying the material culture and local traditions. The museum occupies a traditional house of the village and is integrated in the context of the so-called Black Architecture, very representative of this locality. According to municipal information, its rooms are organized around the reception, the loom and textile arts, honey and dance, country tools, trades, slaughtering, the home and black architecture, as well as an audiovisual room, a photographic exhibition and a library. The contents of the museum provide an insight into the daily life of a mountain community historically linked to agricultural and livestock work, traditional trades and forms of domestic organization typical of mountain villages. The sources consulted do not provide a date of foundation or a precise construction period of the building that houses it. Its heritage interest lies in the fact that it preserves and explains, from a local perspective, the uses, tools and cultural manifestations that have defined the identity of Valverde de los Arroyos, one of the most unique towns in the province due to its traditional slate architecture and its mountain landscape.
