Joaquín Díaz Ethnographic Museum

The Joaquín Díaz Ethnographic Museum is an ethnographic and monographic museum dedicated to popular culture, traditional music, and oral heritage. It is located in Urueña, in the province of Valladolid, Castile and León, and is housed in the Casa de la Mayorazga at 4 Calle Real. It was founded in 1985 by folklorist Joaquín Díaz González, and its permanent home was established in March 1991. The building that houses the museum dates from the 18th century, so the complex combines the historical value of civil architecture with its role as a museum and research center. The center preserves and displays collections of traditional instruments from Castile and León, handicrafts, toys, photographs, engravings, and lithographs of regional costumes. It also houses a library and sound archive specializing in folk literature, songbooks, ballad collections, tales, and legends, which reinforces its role as a space for the study and dissemination of intangible cultural heritage.
