Description

The Museo del Aceite Molino del Medio is an ethnographic museum dedicated to the culture of olive oil, housed in a renovated old mill in Robledillo de Gata, in the province of Cáceres. The center's own website points out that the building is an oil mill of medieval origin, as old as the town, and that it reopened as a museum in 2004 after a long restoration. The local tourism card also presents it as a visitable resource linked to the interpretation of oil and its traditional processes. By its typology, it is a museum of patrimonial and technical character, focused on explaining the inner workings of a traditional oil mill. Among its documented elements are the preserved original machinery, explanatory panels, objects related to the production and domestic use of oil, and didactic materials on the history of the olive grove and milling. The visit is usually completed with a tasting of extra virgin olive oil, which reinforces its informative function. As for its historical context, the museum is part of the popular architecture of Robledillo de Gata, a town declared a historic-artistic site for its urban preservation and traditional heritage. The sources consulted place the mill in medieval times, although the precise dating of the building should be understood as approximate; therefore, it is more prudent to speak of medieval origin, with continued use until 1973 and subsequent museum restoration. Its interest lies both in the property and in the preservation of the olive-growing memory of the Sierra de Gata. The resource is located in the Plazuela, 11, very close to the historic center of Robledillo de Gata and in the coordinates provided for this file, which confirms its integration into the heritage fabric of the village. Its main value is didactic and ethnographic, as it preserves a unique testimony of traditional oil production in Extremadura.
