Description

The Santa Teresa de Pastrana Museum is a religious-themed museum located in the Convent of El Carmen in Pastrana (Guadalajara), outside the town center, in an area associated with the town’s connection to Saint Teresa. The museum offers a journey through the artistic, historical, and spiritual legacy of the Carmelite foundation established by Saint Teresa of Jesus in Pastrana. The convent complex was founded in 1569 by Saint Teresa of Jesus, dating its origins to the 16th century, in the midst of the Carmelite reform. The museum was established in 2015, coinciding with the 5th centennial of the saint’s birth, and occupies spaces within the former convent, particularly the church and the cloister. From a heritage perspective, the site’s significance lies in the convent’s architecture itself and in the historical context of the place, which preserves the physical framework of a Teresian foundation of great importance to the ducal town. The sources consulted also highlight the presence of artistic works and the “Cristo de la Verdad” as a notable piece within the museum complex. The museum helps visitors understand Pastrana’s importance as a center of Carmelite spirituality and as a 16th-century historical site, now integrated into the cultural and religious route dedicated to Teresa of Ávila in the town.
