Description

The Coria Museum is a historical-didactic museum located in Trujillo (Cáceres, Extremadura), at coordinates 39.46104, -5.88549. It occupies the former Convent of San Francisco el Real de la Puerta de Coria, today linked to the Xavier de Salas Foundation, and is dedicated to explaining the relationship between Extremadura and Ibero-America, with special attention to the voyages of discovery, the encounter with American cultures and the formation of new mestizo cultures. The building that houses it is documented as a historical complex of 16th century convent origin, reused as an exhibition space. The sources consulted present it as an adaptation of the ruins of the old convent, with a museographic organization in several rooms and didactic panels, so that its patrimonial interest lies as much in the content as in the architectural continent. Among the elements mentioned in the descriptions are the preserved cloister, the central cistern and the remains of the convent integrated into the tour. The museography is focused on the history of the Conquest of America and the figure of Francisco Pizarro, within the monumental context of Trujillo, a city closely linked to the overseas expansion of Extremadura.
