Description

The Monastery of Nuestra Señora de la Hoz is a site of monastic ruins located at the bottom of the canyon of the Duratón River, in the municipality of Sepúlveda (Segovia), within the great system of gorges and ravines that characterizes this sector of the province. Its location, embedded in a very abrupt relief, explains both its scenic interest and the access by footpath, in an environment of strong natural and patrimonial value. What can be seen today are the remains of the old monastery, integrated into a landscape of limestone walls, closed meanders and riverside vegetation typical of the Hoces del Duratón. Precisely because of this combination of ruined architecture and unique geological scenery, the place attracts visitors looking for natural viewpoints, hiking trails and a historical reading of the territory. Its relevance is not only visual: it is part of the Natural Park of the Duratón River Sickles, one of the best known areas of Segovia, and concentrates the attraction of an enclave where nature and monastic memory overlap. In tourist guides and directories it appears as one of the points of interest associated with Sepúlveda and its immediate surroundings.
