Description

The Mirador del Castillo de Castrojeriz is a scenic viewpoint located in Castrojeriz, in the province of Burgos, next to the ruins of the medieval castle that dominates the hill to the west of the town. The consulted reference places it at about 900 meters above sea level, on an adjoining promontory that acts as a natural balcony over the town and the immediate surroundings. From this point there are panoramic views of the village and the Odra valley, one of the keys to its interest for the visitor. It allows to understand the relationship between the topography, the historical settlement and the strategic position of Castrojeriz in the territory, with the linear hull extending to the foot of the hill and the castle crowning the elevation. Its relevance is mainly scenic and patrimonial, being linked to the castle and the historical image of Castrojeriz, a town known for its Jacobean layout and its historical ensemble. The viewpoint complements the visit to the monumental core and offers a clear reading of the cultural landscape of the town. It is a particularly interesting resource for those traveling the Camino de Santiago or looking for a general view of the town and its rural surroundings, because it summarizes in a single point the geography, history and urban implantation of Castrojeriz.
