Barranco del Poqueira Viewpoint

The Mirador del Barranco del Poqueira is a panoramic viewpoint located in Bubión, in the Alpujarra of Granada, within the scope of the Barranco de Poqueira and the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada. It is a viewpoint of simple access, associated with the roadside and open views over the valley, with the sequence of heights and slopes that characterizes this area of medium and high mountains. From here one can contemplate the narrow ravine excavated by the Poqueira River, with the staggered arrangement of Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira on the slope, as well as agricultural terraces, riverside vegetation, chestnut and oak groves. The interest of the place lies in the landscape reading of the relief, in the traditional Alpujarra architecture and in the historical relationship between the settlement and the use of the land. The environment is part of the Historic Site of the Barranco de Poqueira, declared of Cultural Interest, and is one of the most representative scenarios of the Alpujarra. Its value is not only visual: it helps to understand the human adaptation to the Mediterranean mountain and the continuity of traditional agricultural uses in a protected landscape.
