The Mirador de los Cortados is a natural viewpoint located on the escarpments of the Pisuerga River valley, near Cabezón de Pisuerga, in the province of Valladolid, Castile and León. Geographically, it sits on the bare slope of a moor, where visible sedimentary strata of limestone and gypsum can be seen, formed by river erosion over thousands of years. From this viewpoint, one overlooks the cut in the moorland and can see the river valley floor occupied by the river and its tree-lined banks, with a mosaic of pine forests and farmland in the surrounding area. The view encompasses the limestone and gypsum cliffs and, on the opposite bank of the river, the silhouette of the Monastery of Santa María de Palazuelos, whose imposing and easily recognizable church stands out. The appeal of this spot lies not only in the panoramic view but also in the opportunity to interpret the valley’s geology and understand how erosion has shaped the landscape. This enclave, located just a few kilometers from Valladolid, is one of the province’s most valuable sites in terms of natural beauty and landscape, and it’s an ideal place to enjoy hiking and romantic moments at sunset. The best time to visit is during fall, winter, or spring—avoiding rainy days—and especially at sunset, when the light highlights the orange and whitish hues of the cliffs.
