Description
The mirador de l'ermita de Sant Quirc is located on the hill where the Romanesque hermitage of Sant Quirc de Durro stands, at an altitude of 1,500 m, overlooking the Boí valley and the hamlet of Durro. The point combines landscape and heritage value: the small church, of medieval origin and with subsequent restorations, functions as a natural balcony over a very open mountain environment. From here there is a wide panoramic view of the Vall de Boí, with terraced slopes, mid-mountain meadows and, on clear days, peaks of the Pyrenean environment. The interest of the place lies precisely in that relationship between rural architecture, elevated location and overall view of the valley, one of the most recognizable landscapes of the Alta Ribagorça. The place is located in the middle of the valley. The hermitage is listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest and is part of the Romanesque ensemble of the Vall de Boí, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Therefore, the viewpoint is not only a panoramic viewpoint, but also a gateway to one of the most significant cultural landscapes of the Catalan Pyrenees. The viewpoint is also a gateway to one of the most significant cultural landscapes of the Catalan Pyrenees.[11 The visit is especially recommended in early morning or late afternoon light, when the relief is better marked and the valley gains visual depth. In spring and summer the environment is more accessible and clear; in autumn, the palette of colors of the valley adds photographic interest.
How to get there
By car: from Durro, follow the local road uphill to the hermitage of Sant Quirc; the road access is very close to the building, although the view is completed on foot along the signposted path to the viewpoint. Parking: there is a parking lot at the entrance of Durro; you can also leave your car next to the hermitage if the track is open and space permits. Trail: from the village parking lot, the walking route to the viewpoint is short, flat in its final stretch and is usually completed in about 40 minutes one way, with about 7.5 km and 200 m of elevation gain in the full circular route described by local hikers. Footwear: comfortable mountain or sports shoes with grippy soles. Best season: spring, summer and early autumn. Warnings: there may be ice, mud or snow in cold weather; it is advisable to check the condition of the track and the parking lot, and to respect the signs in the area.
