The Laguna del Rincón is a small wetland in the countryside located south of the municipality of Aguilar de la Frontera, in the area of the Llanos del Rincón, within the Lagunas del Sur de Córdoba. The Junta de Andalucía includes it in the Network of Protected Natural Spaces as a Natural Reserve, with 149.42 hectares of protected area between reserve and protection zone. Its main interest is ecological: it maintains communities of aquatic birds typical of the Andalusian inland lagoons, with species such as the white-headed duck, the mallard and the Moorish coot. From the observation area or from the nearby rural roads, the attraction is in the reading of the landscape of the countryside: sheet of water, edges of marsh vegetation and cereal or dry land plains around. It is not a space of great monumentality, but of leisurely observation, especially for birds and nature photography, when the water level accompanies. In addition to being a Natural Reserve, it is part of the Natura 2000 Network and is recognized as a Ramsar site, which underlines its international value as a wetland. In guides and institutional websites it also appears as Laguna del Rincón de Aguilar de la Frontera, although some references place it in the vicinity of Moriles due to its regional environment. The best visit is usually with soft light in the early morning or at dusk, and after periods with greater water supply, when the wetland has more life and concentration of birds.
