Description
The Parish Church of San Benito is a parish church in Trevélez, in the Alpujarra of Granada, located in the Barrio Bajo of the municipality and linked to the coordinates 37.00036, -3.26496. The own patrimonial card also presents it as a hermitage type resource, so that in the local tourist documentation it appears with a double functional denomination. It is a church of the XVIII century, chronology that fits with the renovation of many rural temples alpujarreños after the modern stage. No specific architectural style is documented in the sources consulted, so it should be described with caution as a modern religious building, without attributing unverified stylistic features. Its patrimonial interest resides above all in its value as a religious and urban reference of the neighborhood, forming part of the cultural legacy of Trevélez and of its historical image as a high altitude mountain town in the Sierra Nevada. Today the parish church maintains regular liturgical use, which confirms its continuity as a living space of worship and local identity.
