Description
The Church of Santiago and San Ginés de Arlés is the parish church of Miranda del Castañar, in the province of Salamanca, in the Sierra de Francia. It is a religious temple linked to the medieval historic center of the town and located in the surroundings of the monumental complex of the town. The sources consulted place it as a work of Gothic origin built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, with later reforms. Its typology is that of a parish church, although in tourist inventories it also appears generically as a hermitage/heritage resource. The dominant style is Gothic, with the presence of Mudejar elements and later additions. Among its most outstanding features are a simple floor plan with a rectangular nave and a lateral portico supported by columns. Also mentioned is a bell tower or belfry linked to the temple, as well as a small museum inside, which reinforces its value as a piece of interpretation of the local heritage. The building is part of the historical landscape of Miranda del Castañar, a town declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1973, where the church dialogues with the castle, the wall and the rest of the traditional mountain architecture.
