Description
The Church of San Vitores is a religious building in Frías (Burgos), identified in tourist sources as a church or hermitage and located at coordinates 42.76179, -3.29292. It is a building of strong patrimonial interest within the medieval historical complex of the town, today better known as an architectural testimony than as an active temple. The first known documentary mention dates from 1211, in texts linked to the nearby monastery of Vadillo. The sources consulted indicate that the building has undergone numerous transformations, collapses and reuses over time, even serving functions other than worship, such as grain storage. From the architectural point of view, it conserves a sober construction with little decoration. The descriptive tradition and the patrimonial files indicate the presence of a belfry of Romanesque origin and a Gothic portal, which suggests a medieval evolution with elements of different constructive phases. Its value lies both in the antiquity of the place and in its condition as a vestige of the religious history of Frías, where the building is part of the monumental landscape linked to the rocky hill and the medieval development of the town.
