Description
The Church of San Blas de Anento, in Anento (Zaragoza, Aragón), is the parish church of the village, although in some tourist sources it is also mentioned as a hermitage due to its scale and local character. Its construction began in the 13th century in Romanesque style, within the context of the medieval repopulation and the consolidation of the hamlet in the Jiloca valley. The building has a single rectangular nave with nine bays, pointed arches and a pointed barrel vault; there is also a sacristy attached next to the presbytery. These structural solutions show a sober construction, typical of a rural religious architecture of transition between Romanesque and early Gothic forms. Its most outstanding patrimonial element is the Gothic main altarpiece, attributed to Blasco de Grañén, considered one of the most relevant pieces of the Aragonese artistic heritage and outstanding for its large format and conservation. The church has been recently restored, recovering part of its historical aspect and reinforcing its value as the main heritage monument of Anento. The resource is located in the urban center of Anento, in the indicated coordinates, within a very visited rural tourist complex around the medieval heritage of the municipality.
