Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

The Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is the main parish church of Zuheros, in the province of Córdoba, located on Horno Street and within the monumental environment of the historic center, next to the castle and the traditional layout of the town. It is a temple of Catholic worship that appears as a parish church, although in some references it is also mentioned as a hermitage because of its dedication and architectural scale. For his factory, it is a baroque construction of a single nave, covered with barrel vault in three sections and presbytery with groin vault. At the foot or next to the chancel there is a square bell tower, with a simple profile and a very contained top, features that reinforce its sober and popular aspect. The consulted sources place its construction in the XVII century and indicate later reforms, especially in the XVIII and XIX centuries. The building also stands out for its devotional value, being dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, patron saint of Zuheros. Some references mention in its interior a Baroque altarpiece from the 18th century and side chapels linked to local devotions, elements that increase its patrimonial interest, although not all sources document them in the same detail. In the historical framework of Zuheros, the church forms part of the most relevant artistic points of the protected urban ensemble, recognized as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of Historical Ensemble. Its importance lies both in its religious function and in its integration into the historical image of the old town, where it retains a prominent presence alongside the defensive and popular architecture of the municipality.
