Description
The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Muela is a parish church in Monteagudo de las Vicarías, in the province of Soria, located in the Plaza Mayor and very close to the town's castle. Its consideration as a heritage resource is linked to this monumental complex, one of the most recognizable historical landmarks of the municipality. According to the sources consulted, the building was constructed at the end of the 15th century, around 1470, in a late Gothic style. It has a single nave divided into four sections and covered with Gothic ribbed vaults. The main facade incorporates a gallery of blind arches, interpreted as an influence of Aragonese Mudejar. In the 17th century the tower was added at the foot of the temple, organized in three sections and with upper bays for the bell tower. The combination of Gothic masonry and later additions explains its historical and architectural value, reinforced by its declaration as an Asset of Cultural Interest. The local heritage tradition also identifies the church as part of the historical landscape of the old border town of Monteagudo de las Vicarías, where the church and the castle articulate the monumental image of the town.
