Ibón de Los Asnos is a glacial mountain lake located in the Sierra de Tendeñera, within the Tena Valley in the Aragonese Pyrenees (Huesca). It lies at an altitude of 2,060 meters, with an approximate surface area of 6.5 hectares and a depth of 6 meters. It is nestled at the bottom of a glacial over-excavation basin, surrounded by the peaks of Peña Roya (2,578 m) and Mandilar (2,211 m), which are part of the same mountain range. It is one of only two glacial lakes in this area, along with the Ibón de Sabocos, and stands out for its easy access via the Panticosa gondola, making it a very popular summer destination for families with children. From the viewing point, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Tena Valley and the surrounding peaks, in a setting that, although developed for the ski resort, retains all its natural beauty. The mountain lake is ideal for enjoying nature, taking a stroll, and fishing, where you can find trout and minnows introduced by anglers. Despite being located in a grazing area and having been altered in the 1990s by the construction of a water intake for artificial snow, it retains its scenic appeal. The best time to visit is during July and August, when the cable car is in operation (from July 6 to September 1) and conditions are ideal for hiking. It is a major tourist attraction in the Tena Valley, frequently mentioned in hiking and excursion guides for Huesca, and is considered one of the most impressive and accessible mountain lakes in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
