Description

The Ibón de Acherito is a glacial lake located in the municipality of Ansó, in Huesca, within the Natural Park of the Western Valleys. It is located in the surroundings of the Hecho valley, although administratively it belongs to Ansó, and the sources cite it as one of the westernmost lakes of the Pyrenees; some guides also point it out as the westernmost natural lake of this mountain range. It is a small high mountain lake, surrounded by an amphitheater of peaks and limestone walls that dominate the head of the valley. Its scenic interest lies in the combination of cold waters, high altitude pastures, canchales and well-preserved glacial reliefs, with wide views over the Aragón Subordán and the mountains bordering France. The visit is interesting for its geomorphological value and for the Pyrenean landscape that summarizes: glacial basin, alpine environment and strong natural imprint. In its surroundings there are also megalithic remains cited by several routes, which adds a heritage component to the tour, although this presence is not always detailed in the basic records of the place. It is included in hiking itineraries publicized by tourism entities and by the Natural Network of Aragon, which confirms its relevance as a natural and hiking resource in the Natural Park of the Western Valleys. The usual access is from the area of Selva de Oza and Guarrinza, with mountain routes of several kilometers and notable unevenness.
