La Pedrosa Beech Forest is a high mountain beech forest located on the northern slope of the Sierra de Ayllón, in the municipality of Riofrío de Riaza, next to the Puerto de la Quesera. It extends around 87 hectares and is located approximately between 1,430 and 1,700 meters above sea level, which explains its singular character in the southernmost sector of these forests in the peninsula. It is part of an environment of great ecological value and is listed as an area included in the Natura 2000 Network and in the network of natural areas of Castilla y León. From the point of visit you can see tall beech trees, twisted trunks, mosses, lichens and a damp undergrowth that gains density on the better oriented slopes. The interest of the place is both in the beech forest itself and in the contrast between the forest and the open landscape of the pass, with wide views of the mountains and very marked changes of light throughout the day. Its greatest attraction is concentrated in autumn, when the foliage changes from green to golden, yellow and ocher tones. It is also a very popular destination in spring and early summer for the freshness of the atmosphere and the flowering of the environment, although snow and ice can condition access in winter. It is a very cited enclave in guides and nature routes of Segovia for its landscape and the relative ease of approach from the port, although parking is limited and should arrive early in high season.
