Description
The Fuente Gaseosa de Sonsoles is a small place of local interest located in Pampaneira, in the Alpujarra of Granada, near the edge of the town and in the environment of the Barranco del Cerezo. It is a source of natural mineral water, also known as Fuente Agria de Sonsoles, associated with springs on the lower slopes of the village and a landscape closely linked to the meltwater of the Sierra Nevada. Its main attraction is the unique character of its flow: the water appears slightly ferruginous, with a spicy or "fizzy" taste, an uncommon feature in the network of springs of Pampaneira and frequent in some parts of the Alpujarra. Next to it there is another source of cold water and normal mineralization, which highlights the diversity of subway routes that follow the waters in this sector of slopes and ravines. The immediate surroundings are simple, but interesting for its landscape context: a transition zone between the village and the bottom of the ravine, with vegetation linked to the humidity and views of the abrupt relief characteristic of the Poqueira. Because of its location, it functions as a brief stop for a walk and as a testimony of the water culture in Pampaneira, where fountains, irrigation ditches and washing places are an essential part of the traditional landscape. Its relevance is mainly patrimonial and landscape, rather than monumental. It is included in the local tourist resources of Pampaneira and in informative inventories of fountains in the area, where its special water and its relationship with the rural urbanism of the Alpujarra are highlighted.
How to get there
By car: from Pampaneira, follow the A-4132 road to the entrance of the town center and locate the final stretch of the Paseo Federico García Lorca, on the western edge of the village. Parking: it is advisable to leave the vehicle in the areas provided for access to the village and continue on foot; the center is very narrow and with steep streets. Trail: short pedestrian access, a few minutes from the town center; minimal slope. Footwear: comfortable shoes with grippy soles, useful for the steep streets and uneven pavement. Best season: spring and autumn, or early morning in summer. Warnings: the spring is on the outskirts of the town center; there is no demanding hiking itinerary, but the urban access can be uncomfortable for people with reduced mobility.
