Description
La Fuente del Salobral is a source of sodium sulfide water located in the area of Vailengua, in the municipality of Vinuesa. The complex is associated with an old spa and today combines the function of a resting point with that of a small mineral-medicinal spring, in an environment of mountain and pine forest linked to the Duero valley. From the point of visit there are open views over the reservoir, the Revinuesa valley and the masses of Scots pine that surround Vinuesa. The interest of the site lies both in the landscape and in the spring itself, known locally for its characteristic sulfur smell, hence the popular nickname of "source of rotten eggs." The Diputación de Soria and the City Council of Vinuesa have publicized its recovery as a resource for public use, and the hiking route linked to the Senda del Duero presents it as a stopping point of low difficulty. There is no specific figure of protection for the spring, but it is part of a very frequented environment within the scope of the Laguna Negra and the glacial cirques of Urbión.[11 The best time to visit it is usually spring, summer and early autumn, when access is more comfortable and the pine forest offers good visual shelter; in winter, the environment can be very cold and icy.[2
How to get there
By car: from Vinuesa, cross the Puente Romano and take the forest track that goes off to the right in the direction of Vailengua. Parking: there is no specific parking lot; the vehicle is usually left in Vinuesa or at the trail access if conditions permit. Trail: access on foot, by bike or by vehicle; there is no reliable official data on distance or elevation gain. Footwear: hiking or sports shoes with good soles are recommended. Best season: spring, mild summer and autumn. Warnings: the water has an intense sulfurous odor; part of the building serves as a shelter and may require a key at the Vinuesa Town Hall.
