Description
El Salt is a waterfall in the surroundings of Valderrobres, in the region of Matarraña, province of Teruel, located on the Tastavins river, a tributary of the Matarraña. Although the toponym is sometimes generically associated with the excursion destination from Valderrobres, the waterfall itself corresponds to the place known as El Salt de La Portellada, about 9 km from the town of Valderrobres. It is a waterfall about 20 meters high, which falls over a natural well and a rock amphitheater shaped by erosion. The set combines limestone wall, riparian vegetation and a very open river landscape, with easy access trails from the marked trail. In the rainy season the flow becomes more attractive; in drought it can be greatly reduced or even disappear. What most interests the visitor is the contrast between the vertical drop, the sound of the water and the geological forms carved into the rock, in addition to the scenic value of the environment of the Tastavins. It is one of the best known points of nature tourism in the area and appears regularly in guides and local routes of Matarraña. Its relevance is mainly scenic and recreational, within a territory highly valued for its natural and rural heritage. The visit fits well with other nearby resources of Valderrobres and the Matarraña valley, so it is usually part of regional itineraries of hiking and inland tourism.
