The Fervenza do Xestosa is one of the great waterfalls in Lugo and Galicia, located between the municipalities of Muras and Ourol, where the Rego da Xestosa River forms a natural boundary. This river originates near Alto da Gañidoira and, before entering Ourol, abruptly changes direction to wind its way through a deep valley, creating a massive drop of more than 20 meters in height. The waterfall features several successive drops, the last of which is the most impressive, with a bountiful flow that makes it an unforgettable visual spectacle. From the viewing point, you can see the upper part of the waterfall with its multiple drops, and upon reaching the base, you can appreciate the magnitude of the final 20-meter drop in a wooded setting of pine trees that leaves no one indifferent. The surrounding vegetation, along with an abandoned water channel and a concrete dam next to the waterfall, add geological and historical interest to the site. The Fervenza do Xestosa is also known as Xanceda and flows into the Landro River; it is recognized in guidebooks as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the A Mariña region of Lugo. It does not have a specific protected status, but its inclusion in tourist publications and recent reviews confirms its significance as a natural destination. The best time to visit is in spring or fall, when the water flow is at its highest and the vegetation is at its most vibrant, although it is also accessible in summer if there are no drought-related restrictions.
