Es Pontàs is a natural marine arch of limestone rock, formed by the erosion of the sea and the wind, which rises off the southeast coast of Mallorca, between Cala Santanyí and Cala Llombards. The very shape of the bridge gives its name to the place; several sources describe it as an illot or islet with an arch some 20 to 25 meters high. Its silhouette, isolated on the water, is one of the most recognizable images of the coast of Santanyí. From the point of visit you can see the arch framed by low cliffs, clear water and the coastline of Cala Santanyí and Cala Llombards. It is an especially grateful place for landscape photography because it allows you to clearly see the geometry of the arch and the texture of the rock strata. On calm days, the contrast between the clear stone and the blue of the sea is very marked. There is no specific figure of protection for the arch itself, but the place appears recurrently in tourist guides and publications of Mallorca as a landscape landmark of the municipality of Santanyí. Its accessibility and its very recognizable profile explain its constant presence in informative materials about the southeast coast of the island. The best time is usually sunset, when the lateral light highlights the relief of the arch and the cliffs. It is also a good target on days with calm seas and clear skies; with very rough seas, the landscape becomes more dramatic, although the observation point remains the same.
