Description
The Ermita del Patrocinio is a hermitage or small temple of worship located in Santa Gadea del Cid, in the province of Burgos (Castilla y León), at coordinates 42.71569, -3.06047. It is part of the religious heritage of this medieval town, declared a Historic Site, so it is part of the monumental landscape of the historic center and its immediate surroundings. The consulted sources place it as a construction of the XVI century, with a baroque belfry added or reformed in later times. This fact identifies it as a building of long historical trajectory, with an architectural reading of Renaissance phase in origin and Baroque contributions in its vertical finish. It is linked to the devotion to the Virgen del Espino, a circumstance that explains its historical function as a place of worship and religious reference for the local community. Its character as a hermitage and its location in Santa Gadea del Cid make it a heritage resource of interest within the religious architecture of the municipality. Due to its chronology, typology and preserved or documented elements, the hermitage constitutes a relevant testimony of the rural devotional heritage of the locality, especially valuable within a town whose historical image has been configured among walls, traditional houses and religious buildings of different periods.
