Description
The Ermita del Cristo del Humilladero is a small entrance hermitage located just outside the walled enclosure of Miranda del Castañar, in the province of Salamanca, Castilla y León, at coordinates 40.48419, -5.99666. Its patrimonial function is that of an oratory linked to the historical access to the village, within the traditional religious landscape of the Sierra de Francia. The consulted sources place it in the XVI century and describe it as a temple of Gothic style, with presence of Mudejar roof; in its interior two Gothic sepulchres and a Hispano-Flemish Pietà are documented, elements that stand out for their artistic and devotional value. The local reference also presents it as a small temple outside the defensive enclosure, which reinforces its role as a hermitage linked to the transit and protection of the place. In Miranda del Castañar, this hermitage is part of the set of traditional heritage resources of the municipality and preserves a historical devotion associated with the image of the Cristo del Humilladero. Its location at the entrance of the village makes it a relevant piece of the local religious heritage and an easily recognizable landmark in the approach to the village.
