Description
The Ermita de Santa Bárbara is a small 15th century Gothic hermitage located on a hill overlooking Rubielos de Mora, in the province of Teruel. It is accessed by a path and its location makes it a natural viewpoint over the historic center and the landscape of the region of Gúdar-Javalambre. The consulted card places it in the term of Rubielos de Mora and describes it as a building of masonry and stonework, of unique ship to two waters. The most striking thing about the place is its elevated position and the relationship between architecture and landscape: from the surroundings of the hermitage there is a wide view over the mountains of Teruel, which explains its interest as a short excursion point and as a landmark visible from the village. The access on foot and the character of ruin reinforce its value as a historical vestige inserted in a very marked natural and rural environment. It is currently in ruins, so the main interest is landscape, heritage and hiking, rather than cultural. Its presence in inventories and lists of monuments of Rubielos de Mora links it to the traditional religious heritage of the municipality and to the historical image of the "Portico de Aragón".
