Description
The Ermita de San Antonio is a small church or hermitage of devotional character located in the Barrio Medio of Trevélez, in the province of Granada, exactly at coordinates 37.00238, -3.26800. It is a religious heritage resource of local scale, integrated into the traditional fabric of the Alpujarra and associated with the popular worship of the municipality. The consulted sources describe it as a hermitage that houses images of San Antonio and the Virgen de las Nieves, which confirms its function as a place of worship and prayer linked to the traditional religiosity of Trevélez. I have not found in the sources provided a date of construction or a stylistic ascription sufficiently documented, so it is not safe to attribute a specific century or a precise architectural style. Its patrimonial interest resides above all in its ethnographic and religious value within the urban center of Trevélez, one of the highest villages of the peninsula and an outstanding enclave of the Alpujarra of Granada. In this context, the hermitage is part of the living heritage of the village and its cultural landscape, rather than a great monumentalized monument.
